Conceptualized by San Diego Photographer, Cavin, owner of Cavin Elizabeth Photography, this clean and classic styled shoot is a tribute to a timeless & elegant wedding. Collaborating with Samantha, of Samantha Louise Moments a wedding planner located in San Diego, the duo hand selected a team of vendors to make the vision come to life. Lucky for me, I was one of them.

Free of heavy graphics or motifs, I focused on creating design elements simply from the fonts. In the background, a large scale ampersand in pale blue brings an organic touch to an otherwise uniform layout.  To keep the suite moody, I paired it with a non-traditional black pocketfold and a metallic cotton ribbon to seal it closed.  Inside, the reply and additional detail cards stagger in the pocket.

To keep the cards from looking too blasé, I chose to print the smaller card full color. This also helps the recipient to differentiate each card. For me, the hardest task as a stationery designer is keeping the function in the forefront. What is the point of having a visually well designed invitation suite, if it does not do the job of relaying information to its recipient?

Adding a vibrant liner into both envelopes, tied in the blues of the invitation and the metallic of the ribbon. I made the liners out of screen printed wrapping paper sheets I picked up at Seaside Paper | Home.

I mimicked the clean lines paired with the oversize ampersand from the invitation to design the menus, and styled the full bleed of color on the table numbers after the reply card. Knowing the napkins would be black, and plates would be white, I used the pale blue border to create a braking point to keep the menu from fading into the rest of the setting. The final touch was the place cards. I had to mix the ink myself to match, and opted to stay away from a script lettering to keep the modern feel Cavin was looking for.

Samantha did a great job incorporating the stationery with the dessert table. I love how the black details from the suite compliment the hand painted strokes on the cake from Sweet Lydias.
